Zoning plan for high-capacity public transport
A zoning plan for high-capacity public transport was out for consultation April 9–May 22, 2021. The purpose of the plan is to regulate where the light railway will run through Uppsala and also to enable bridges, power stations, stormwater dams and other facilities needed.
The zoning plan stretches from Uppsala Central Station to the railway station Uppsala Södra, and is about 17 kilometres long. The purpose of the zoning plan is to create a new high-capacity public transport line, primarily for tramway. The zoning plan details the entire extent of the street space but does not govern the exact placement of the public transport line in the street.
The line is divided into four subsections. Subsection A runs from Uppsala Central Station to Exercisfältet, where the public transport line branches out into an eastern and a western direction. Subsection B runs through Rosendal, Vårdsätravägen and Gottsunda. In Rosendal, parts of Torgny Segerstedts allé are already planned for rail and are therefore not included in the zone. Subsection C runs from Ångströmslaboratoriet through Ulleråker and Ultuna. A section of Ullåker has already planned with rails in mind and is therefore not included in the zone. Subsection D runs from Bäcklösa to Ultuna, where the eastern and the western lines merge again. Subsection D then continues eastward across the Fyris River towards Sävja and Bergsbrunna, reaching its end at the new hub Uppsala Södra, which joins the new public transport line to the railway. In Gottsunda and the new bridge across the Fyris River at Ultuna, two new alternative lines are included in the consultation.
The zoning plan is deemed to pose a considerable risk to the environment. A description of the environmental risks has therefore been drafted.
